IOPS – Measure of storage performance.
IOPS is a standard performance metric for storage devices that measures how many input/output operations can be performed per second. In cloud storage, IOPS capabilities vary by storage type and configuration. For example, AWS EBS volumes offer different IOPS levels based on volume type (GP3, io2, etc.). Azure managed disks similarly offer various performance tiers with different IOPS guarantees. IOPS requirements depend heavily on workload type – databases typically need high IOPS, while static content serving needs fewer. Cloud providers often allow bursting above baseline IOPS for short periods. Understanding IOPS needs is crucial for proper storage configuration and application performance.
